A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry alive. But will the net version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an ancient game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent return in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not given up on this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can gamble on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on online is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
