A lot has been stated in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the online version of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar relative?
Bingo is an classic game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Surely they have not forgotten this age old game?
The answer is online. People realise that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course gambling on online is unlikely to replace the communal portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
