Much has been talked in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the online version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo has been an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law around UK.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t given up on this familiar game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
