An abundance has been reported in the press recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the industry alive. But will the web adaptation of this classic game present a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo is an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout England and Wales.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored locations where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they haven’t abandoned this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Players realize that they can wager on bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
