An abundance has been talked in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry struggling because of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar relative?
Bingo is an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent return in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the cigarette ban all over United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite places where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the web could never replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
