Much has been reported in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax breaks to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an ancient game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti smoking law throughout UK.

No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most popular areas where people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t given up on this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
