A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry afloat. However will the net variation of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an enduring game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the smoking ban all over England and Wales.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common locations where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Surely they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?

The answer is online. People know that they can wager on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
