Much has been written in the papers recently about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the online version of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or will it not compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.

No more will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite locations where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the net could never replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
