Much has been written in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti smoking law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. However does the online variation of this traditional game present a reprieve, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enacting of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.

Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the internet could never replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no choice.
